Matini 1979 edited and published this book based on a manuscript, but since the name of the mentioned book was not in that copy, the editor put the title "Pand-e Piran" on it. Pand-e Piran was translated into Arabic by an unknown translator before 1060 AH, and its title is "Hekayat al-Salehin". Since Haji Khalifa introduced a book in Farsi with the same name "Hekayat al-Salehin" and with the same structure, authored by Othman ibn Omar al-Kahf, in Kashf al-Zonnun, it is highly probable that the original name of Pand-e Piran was "Hekayat al-Salehin" and the name of its author was "Othman ibn Omar al-Kahf". Meanwhile, in the Indian subcontinent, Habib Rokn al-din Pahvari Qorayshi, who was unaware of the existence of the Persian original of the Arabic "Hekayat al-Salehin", translated it into Persian in 1060 AH. In the critical edition of Pand-e Piran, it is necessary to use "Hekayat al-Salehin" as a secondary source. Correct and significant variants of the Arabic text, especially in proper names, can help the editor in the critical edition of the Persian text. پند پیران یکی از متون کهن صوفیّه است که بیست باب دارد و هر بابِ آن حاوی ده حکایت از پارسایان و زاهدان است. جلال متینی این کتاب را براساسِ یک نسخۀ خطی تصحیح و منتشر کرد؛ امّا چون در آن نسخه نام کتاب مذکور نبود، مصحّح عنوانِ «پند پیران» را بر آن گذاشت. این کتاب پیش از سال 1060ق به‌دستِ مترجمی ناشناس به عربی ترجمه شده است که عنوانِ آن «حکایات الصّالحین» است. از‌آنجاکه حاجی خلیفه در کشفُ الظُّنّون کتابی به فارسی با نامِ «حکایات الصّالحین» و با همین ساختار، تألیفِ عثمان بن عمر الکهف معرّفی کرده است، به احتمالِ قوی نامِ اصلیِ پند پیران، حکایات الصّالحین و نامِ نویسندۀ آن نیز عثمان بن عمر الکهف است. ضمناً در شبه‌قارّۀ هند، حبیب رکن‌الدّین پهواری قریشی که از وجودِ اصلِ فارسیِ حکایات الصّالحین بی‌خبر بوده، متن عربی را در سال 1060ق به فارسی ترجمه کرده است. در تصحیحِ پند پیران، استفاده از حکایات الصّالحین به‌عنوانِ منبعِ جنبی ضرورت دارد و ضبط‌های صحیح و شایان ‌توجّه متنِ عربی، به‌ویژه در اسامی خاص، می‌تواند در تصحیحِ متن فارسی یاریگرِ مصحّح باشد.
